Two survive, as Chitambo District Commissioner, Chola, dies in road accident

Chitambo District Commissioner, Evans Chola, has died in a fatal Road accident that happened in the early hours of Tuesday, along Great North Road.

Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, said Chola was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mkushi District Hopital, in Central Province.

Hamoonga said this in a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday

He said Police in Mkushi at approximately 06:00 hours along the Great North Road in the Chalata area of Mkushi district, dealt with a fatal road traffic accident which occurred involving a Toyota Hilux with registration number GRZ 825CR.

“The vehicle was being driven by Jones Malipilo, 31 years old, of Ebelelo road, Serenje district, traveling from East to West,” Hamoonga stated.

He revealed that two passengers were on board at the time who were Chola, age not yet known and Peter Chilombo, 33 years old, Head Teacher at Chiotwe Primary School in Chitambo district.

Hamoonga said the tragic incident unfolded when excessive speed led to the driver losing control of the vehicle, resulting in somersault.

“Chola, who was seated in the back seat, was thrown outside through the window, sustaining fatal head injuries,” he said.

Hamoonga added that the driver Jones Malipilo suffered a small cut on the left eyebrow and complained of general body pains, while Chilombo sustained a cut on the left elbow, a painful neck and general body pains.

He disclosed that the body of the deceased, Chola, was lying at Mkushi District Hospital mortuary.

Hamoonga said both the driver and the surviving passenger were currently receiving treatment at Mkushi District Mortuary Hospital.

“The motor vehicle has incurred extensive damage.Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families and friends affected by this tragic incident,” he stated.

Hamoonga indicated that Police were conducting investigations to determine the full circumstances surrounding the accident.
