Two pupils of Grand IQ Primary School in Chilanga District of Lusaka Province have been injured after a grenade exploded at their School.

Chilanga Police Station on Monday received a report from Clement Chinyama, the Headmaster at Grand IQ Primary School, who informed them that there was explosion at the school and that two pupils were injured.

Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, in a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday said this occurred at around 13:10 hours on July 24, 2023 at Grand IQ Primary School.

Hamoonga said brief facts of the matter are that the pupils were on lunch time break and were relaxing and suddenly one of the boys announced that he had a new toy, which he started playing together with friends before it exploded.

“Police rushed to the scene and found two pupils, a boy aged five and a girl, aged nine, were injured and both had deep cuts on the legs,” he said.

Hamoonga said the victims were rushed to Chilanga clinic.

“Police investigation revealed that it was a police grenade which had exploded and information gathered around from the pupil was that the grenade was brought at the school by a five year old who told his friend that he had a toy and as he pulls the pin everyone should run and he tried to pull but he failed and gave it to the friend aged eight years who managed to pull the pin and the grenade went off injuring two pupils,” he said.
