Two maids in court for allegedly stealing $15,000, pants, other items belonging to Lebanese businessman

Two maids have been dragged to the Lusaka Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing pants, money and other items valued at more than K262,000 , belonging to a Lebanese businessman.

It is alleged Betisheba Malupande, 23, of Shibuyunji district and Fales Tembo of Petauke district, employed as maid between May 30 and June 6, 2023, did steal head cover, ladies underwear, washing dish, karack foot medicine and US$15,000, valued at K262,600, the property of Ali Ecali.

The complainant had withdrawn the money and stored in his house to pay for goods coming from Lebanon.

The duo were arrested on June 10, this year, and items amounting to K7,600 were recovered but not the US$15,000.

They were charged with theft by servant contrary to Section 272 and 278 of the Penal code chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

The accused persons who appeared before Magistrate Mutinta Mwenya, however denied committing the offence.
