The Judiciary of Zambia has with immediate effect placed on suspension Kasempa Magistrate Judge Sandras Samakayi and Solwezi Resident Magistrate Joseph Kunda Malabo.
The suspension follows reports that some suspects at Kasempa Correctional Facility had been dubiously released from Prison and a team was sent to investigate the matter, according to Kalumba Slavin, the Judiciary of Zambia Public Relations Officer.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday, Slavin said preliminary findings of the investigation are of great concern to the Judiciary and this has resulted in their suspension.
She said Judge-in-Charge of North Western Province has called for the record in order to ascertain the propriety of the order and the attendant proceedings.
“The Judiciary will engage relevant instructions to address lapses noted in the process,” Slavin said.
She has since called on Zambians to take a positive active role in ensuring that they hold to account those whom they have delegated their Judicial authority.
“It is the Judiciary’s view that justice must never be perceived as a burden to be carried by one institution but rather a result of positive collective effort of all concerned,” Slavin said.
