Two former employees of ZESCO Limited have been convicted for forging academic documents, fraudulently securing employment, and unlawfully earning over K5 million in combined salaries and allowances.

ZESCO spokesperson, Matongo Maumbi, disclosed in a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday that the employees submitted falsified Grade 12 certificates to gain employment.

Their fraudulent actions, spanning over a decade, were uncovered during routine verification processes.

Both individuals were sentenced to three years imprisonment with hard labor.

Court rulings regarding the recovery of misappropriated funds are still pending.

“ZESCO Limited takes this opportunity to issue a stern warning to all employees and prospective employees: ZESCO says no to corruption. Fraudulent activities will not be tolerated,” Maumbi stated.

Maumbi stated that integrity remained the cornerstone of ZESCO’s operations.

He warned that employees engaging in misconduct would face dismissal and criminal prosecution.

In its ongoing effort to combat corruption, ZESCO has launched an Online Complaint Management System under its Integrity Committee (IC).

“The platform allows employees and external stakeholders to report corruption, favoritism, bribery, abuse of authority, and other unethical practices securely and conveniently from anywhere,” Maumbi said.

He explained that the system streamlines reporting and ensures swift feedback, reinforcing ZESCO’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

ZESCO urged all stakeholders to uphold ethical standards and report suspicious activities through the new platform or existing channels.

“ZESCO is dedicated to fostering a culture of honesty and professionalism, ensuring our operations reflect the values we stand for,” Maumbi stated.
