Two suspects have been apprehended in Lufwanyama for the brutal murder of Shadreck Shamanena, while a third remains at large, according to Copperbelt Police Chief Peacewell Mweemba.
The incident occurred on December 29, 2024, after the suspects caught Shamanena with a stolen chicken.
The owner, Alex Chisenga, identified him using a flashlight and called for help.
Responding to the call, neighbors joined in chasing Shamanena into a nearby bush.
Mweemba stated that the suspects, including Chisenga and neighbors, Element Kunda, Clement Kunda, and Lawrence Chisenga, apprehended Shamanena and began assaulting him with slaps and sticks.
Despite his pleas for mercy and offers to surrender the chicken, maize, and charcoal as restitution, the suspects continued beating him.

The situation escalated when they tied Shamanena’s hands and feet, brought him back to Chisenga’s house, and continued the assault until he succumbed to his injuries.
After realizing he was dead, the suspects concealed the body in the bush, warning witnesses not to report the matter.
Relatives of the deceased, tipped off by neighbors, confronted the suspects, who initially denied involvement.
A young boy, Lawrence Chisenga, eventually confessed and led them to the hidden body.
Police recovered the decomposed body, which has since been buried, with plans underway for exhumation and an autopsy.
Two suspects are in custody, while one remains on the run as police intensify their manhunt.
“A docket has been opened, and investigations are ongoing,” said Mweemba.
