Two men from Kabompo District in North-Western Province have been arrested in connection with the arson attack on Chieftainess Chiyengele’s Palace.

Danny Mwale, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the suspects, aged 30 and 35, have been charged with arson, malicious damage to property and unlawful wounding.

Mwale disclosed the details in a statement issued on Thursday, explaining that the incident occurred on June 26, 2024, at around 19:30 hours.

According to Mwale, a group of individuals within Chieftainess Chiyengele’s area set fire to the palace’s grass fence and a Toyota Surf motor vehicle.

“Chilomba sustained a deep cut on his back and was rushed to Kabompo District Hospital, where he is receiving treatment. His condition is stable,” Mwale stated.

Police officers have been deployed to the area to restore peace and order and the Chieftainess and the palace have been secured.

“Investigations to establish the cause of the incident have been instituted. The two suspects are detained in police custody while a manhunt for the other suspects has been launched,” Mwale added.
