Tutwa Ngulube’s law firm withdraws from representing ex-ruling party, PF, in K13.5 million suit

Tutwa Ngulube and Company has withdrawn from representing the Patriotic Front (PF) in a matter where Kalandanya Music Promotions (KMP) proprietor, Bwalya Kalandanya, is demanding K13.5 million from the party.

The law firm which was owned by late former PF Kabwe Central Member of Parliament, Tutwa Ngulube, said it does not have enough funds to continue with the operations.

In an affidavit in support of ex parte summons for an order to withdraw as advocates filed in the Lusaka High Court, Felix Chipompela, an advocate in the same firm said after the death of Ngulube in December,last year, the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) placed the firm under a caretaker to conclude its matters.

Chimpompela stated that they had issued several fee notes to its clients to settle understanding legal fees but all has been in vain.

He said the firm had also not received further instructions from its clients .

“That the law firm has insufficent funds to continue carrying out operations and to meet other expenses,” he said.

In this matter, Kalandanya in January, 2022 sued PF party Acting Secretary General, Nickson Chilangwa, claiming payment of K13.5 million with interest for services rendered to the party during the 2021 general elections which included production of campaign songs such as the famous “Solly”..

Kalandanya stated that he entered into an agreement with PF through the national Chairperson for production, promotion, development of campaign songs and political advertisements.

He said that he was approached between April and May 2021 to provide the said music services to PF and on June 12, 2021, he entered into an agreement with PF where it was agreed that he will be paid K13.5 million.

But PF in its defence filed in court denied owing Kalandanya any money saying he provided the services out of charity because it never signed any contract with him.
