0

The trial of a 33-year-old intern medical doctor accused of raping a tuberculosis (TB) patient at Maina Soko Medical Centre failed to proceed on Thursday due to the absence of the presiding magistrate.

Magistrate Kawama Mwamfuli, who is handling the matter, was reportedly indisposed, prompting Magistrate Allan Kangwa to adjourn proceedings.

The accused, Waza Lungu, appeared in court accompanied by relatives.

Lungu is alleged to have raped the patient on March 4, 2025.

He is charged with one count of rape, contrary to Sections 132 and 133 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
