The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested and charged three employees of Solwezi Municipal Council for alleged corrupt practices involving over K200,000.
The accused are Andrew Mutobo, 38, Senior Health Education Officer; Inambao Muwanei, 40, Cleaning Superintendent; and Mpomwa Sinkala, 32, Health Inspector, all from Solwezi in North Western Province.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday, ACC Head of Corporate Communications, Timothy Moono, confirmed the charges.
The trio face one count of Conflict of Interest contrary to Section 15(1) of the Public Procurement Act No. 8 of 2020, as read with Section 105 (2)(g) of the Act.
They are accused of supplying goods worth K228,560 to Solwezi Municipal Council using their company, Mai Innovations Limited, where they were shareholders and directors.
The alleged offenses took place between January 1, 2023, and October 30, 2023, when Mutobo, Muwanei, and Sinkala supplied goods to the Council without declaring their conflict of interest, as required by law.
The arrest followed anomalies noted in the Special Auditor General’s Report on Solwezi Municipal Council conducted in 2023.
The three individuals have been released on bond and are set to appear in court soon.
