The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested three female drug traffickers in Nyimba and Chingola Districts, linked to crimes involving illicit drug importation, psychotropic substance trafficking, and possession of suspected crime proceeds.

DEC Public Relations Officer Allan Tamba confirmed the arrests in a statement issued in Lusaka on Friday and shared with Zambia Monitor.

In Nyimba District, a joint team comprising DEC and Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) officers apprehended Mutondo Nyanzala, a 32-year-old businesswoman from Garden House area in Lusaka.

Nyanzala was found with six boxes containing 1,625 bottles of Benylin with Codeine, 12.4 kilogrammes of suspected high-grade cannabis, and US$12,300 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime.

She is alleged to have been involved in trans-national drug trafficking across the Southern African region.

In a separate operation in Chingola District, DEC officers arrested Lizzy Chishimba, 50, and Yvonne Ng’andwe, 44, residents of Chiwempala township.

The two are accused of supplying illicit drugs to the infamous Jerabos cartel in the Copperbelt Province.

The suspects were found in possession of 71 sachets of heroin weighing 4.3 grammes.

Tamba stated that the drugs, medicines, and cash involved in the cases have been seized, while the suspects remain in lawful custody pending further investigations.

“We want to warn perpetrators that the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them, as the Commission has upscaled its operations countrywide,” Tamba said.

He urged the public to report suspicious activities to the Commission, emphasizing the collective role in combating crime and creating safer communities.
