The Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ), the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ), and the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) have signed a partnership aimed at strengthening Zambia’s electoral processes and promoting citizen participation in democratic governance.

Speaking at the signing ceremony on Monday at Katungila House in Kabulonga, EFZ Chairperson Bishop Paul Mususu stated that the partnership focused on ensuring credible elections and effective monitoring of the electoral process.

Mususu emphasized that democracy thrived on adherence to the rule of law and respect for constitutional order, which were critical to Zambia’s stability and prosperity.

He further highlighted the church’s role in advancing inclusive political institutions and upholding civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights to foster democracy and peace.

“The Council of Churches Monitoring Group (CCMG) will provide a platform for systematic and non-partisan observation of electoral activities, enhancing community and policy engagement,” Mususu said.

The agreement, he noted, marks a milestone in the shared commitment of the three Church bodies to safeguarding democracy.

Mususu also expressed gratitude to key stakeholders, including the Electoral Commission of Zambia, civil society organizations, the media, government institutions, and Zambia’s international partners, for their collaboration with the Church.

“This event comes as CCMG celebrates 10 years of dedicated service to Zambia, the region, and Africa. We pay special tribute to the three Church Mother Bodies for their strategic guidance and commitment throughout this journey,” he said.

The partnership is expected to bolster democratic processes and ensure Zambia’s electoral activities aligned with global standards of credibility and transparency.
