Patriotic Front (PF) acting President, Given Lubinda, has insisted that the mass public rally scheduled for August 26, 2023 will proceed as earlier scheduled.
Addressing a media briefing in Lusaka on Friday, Lubinda said the party had followed all laid down legal and administrative requirements to hold the public rally.
He stated that following his consultations with the party’s Central Committee, it was decided that the party should proceed as it had complied with provisions of the Public Order Act.
“The police actions to prevent the rally were all illegal as demonstrated by the successful appeal against the decisions obtained through the Minister of Home Affairs,” Lubinda said.
He urged the party faithful in Lusaka to come out in numbers and listen to messages of hope and renewal.
On Thursday, Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, said the PF’s publicized rally, which they had notified the police would be held at Muchinga grounds of Zingalume compound on August 26, 2023 will not take place.
Hamoonga in a statement issued in Lusaka said the police had conducted due diligence regarding the PF’s request to hold a public rally.
“However, due to security concerns the Patriotic Front Party has been advised to have their public procession on an alternative period towards the end of September 2023,” he said.
Hamoonga called on all peace loving Zambians to ensure that they maintain law and order as guided by the Zambia Police Service.
“The Patriotic Front Party has been officially communicated to this effect,” he said.
