Manchester United overcame a daunting task, defeating Arsenal in a dramatic penalty shootout to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup despite playing with 10 men for over an hour.

The Gunners’ wastefulness, including Kai Havertz missing in the shootout, proved costly.

After a subdued first half, Bruno Fernandes broke the deadlock with a stunning first-time strike on the counter-attack.

However, United’s momentum faltered when Diogo Dalot was sent off for a second yellow card, paving the way for Gabriel’s immediate equaliser.

In a match reported by The Independent, Arsenal missed a golden opportunity to take the lead as Martin Odegaard’s penalty was denied by goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, following a controversial decision when Havertz went down under minimal contact.

A heated melee ensued, resulting in multiple bookings.

Bayindir’s heroics continued as he made key saves in normal time, including a point-blank stop from Havertz.

Matthijs de Ligt’s spectacular clearance and Joshua Zirkzee’s deflected shot hitting the post added to the high-stakes drama in extra time.

In the decisive shootout, Bayindir saved Havertz’s attempt, while Zirkzee sealed United’s victory with the final penalty, following successful conversions from Bruno Fernandes, Amad Diallo, Leny Yoro, and Lisandro Martinez.
