Technology association claims Zambia recorded over 10 million Cyber attacks in 2022

The Information Communications and Technology Association of Zambia (ICTAZ) says fraud is increasingly threatening the use of digital technology.

Association President, Clement Sinyangwe, said last year, Zambia recorded over 10 million cyber-attacks on various platforms such as websites, Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram.

Sinyangwe said more companies were being forced to invest in Cyber-Security because of the real challenges faced with loss of data, theft of money and even theft of personal information.

Speaking during the ZYNLE 10- year celebration on Friday evening, Sinyangwe said it takes diligence and innovation to stay a step ahead of customer expectations and cyber criminals.

“Technology is meant to make the world smaller as we can virtually connect to a lecture theatre, shop, bank, attend church and even hospital.

“ZYNLE made it possible for farmers to access basic market information to improve their production and manage their produce,” he said.

Sinyangwe said socially, the initiative to establish a Village Banking App is another way that smart technology has been put in the hands of the average person.

“As Zambia endeavours to achieve a cashless society, we will be expecting more from ZYNLE,” he said.

Ministry of Technology and Science Permanent Secretary, Brilliant Habeenzu, said government will continue to support local entrepreneurs to help grow the economy.

The Board Chairperson, Monde Kabemba, said the firm envisions becoming a global leader in the development, innovation and provision of Fintech, mobile and e-learning solutions in Zambia and Africa as a whole.
