The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has named Swiss national, Nora Hauptle, as the new coach for the Copper Queens, signing her on a three-year contract.
FAZ General Secretary, Reuben Kamanga, said Hauptle’s appointment was aimed at building on the recent successes of Zambia’s women’s football, which included winning bronze at the WAFCON, debuting at the FIFA World Cup in 2023, and back-to-back Olympic qualifications.
“We believe Hauptle has the pedigree and profile to take the Copper Queens to the next level,” Kamanga said in a statement issued on Saturday.
A former Swiss international defender, Hauptle had a distinguished playing career in Europe before retiring in 2009.
She later transitioned into coaching, leading SC Sand in the German Frauen-Bundesliga in 2020 and the Black Queens in 2022.

Hauptle is set to replace Bruce Mwape, who will be re-assigned to Zambia’s developmental teams.
Kamanga thanked Mwape for his contributions since 2018, including guiding the Copper Queens to the FIFA World Cup and two Olympics.
As part of FAZ’s technical development initiatives, Mwape is set to pursue a CAF Pro License course under the Royal Morocco Federation, making him the second Zambian coach to achieve this certification.
The Copper Queens, already qualified for the 2024 WAFCON scheduled for July 2025 in Morocco, aim to continue their momentum under Hauptle’s leadership.
