Matero Police Station has arrested Elton Mwendo, also known as “Chaku,” the alleged ring leader of a notorious group of junkies in Matero’s Desai compound, Lusaka.

The 26-year-old suspect, residing at house number 511/01 Desai Compound, was apprehended following a series of violent incidents.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday, Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, detailed that Mwendo led the group “Chipandule,” which caused chaos by indiscriminately beating people and throwing stones at moving vehicles.

“They also engaged in a violent altercation with another group of junkies called ‘NBA’ (Never Broke Again), creating intense public fear as the two groups hurled stones at each other,” Hamoonga reported.

The police swiftly responded and apprehended Mwendo, who had been terrorising the Desai community for some time.

He is currently detained on charges of aggravated robbery.

Hamoonga urged members of the public who were attacked by this group to come forward to assist with identification parades and further investigations.
