Students from 14 African countries set to benefit from Airtel Foundation fellowship programme

The Airtel Africa Foundation has announced a new fellowship programme to aid students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds who are pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) in Zanzibar.

The Foundation said that the programme would provide full financial support, covering the annual tuition fees for selected students over the course of four years.

It further indicated that the programme was open to students from 14 African countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Zambia, Tanzania, Rwanda, DRC, Niger, Chad, Congo-Brazzaville, Gabon, Madagascar, and Seychelles.

Olusegun Ogunsanya, Chairman of the Foundation, emphasized the programme’s broader goals, stating, “Our partnership with IIT Madras Zanzibar is about more than just education. We aim to foster financial and digital inclusion while also contributing to environmental sustainability.”

Zanzibar’s Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Lela Mohamed Mussa, highlighted the significance of this support:

“Ensuring that students from Tanzania and other African nations can access top-tier education through financial assistance is a key priority. We appreciate the Airtel Africa Foundation’s commitment, which aligns with our goals for educational advancement.”
