Milner Mwanakampwe, the Central Province Permanent Secretary, has condemned the political exploitation of youths during the recent Independence Day celebrations held at Godfrey Ucar Chitalu Stadium in Kabwe.
In a telephone interview following the event, Mwanakampwe expressed his disappointment with certain political parties that allegedly mobilized young people to instigate violence against the incumbent administration.
He highlighted specific incidents where children under the age of 13 were reported to have bullied and booed members of the United Party for National Development (UPND) during their march past, describing these actions as unacceptable.
“Independence Day should be a moment for unity and collective celebration rather than a platform for political conflict,” Mwanakampwe stated.

He reiterated that using youths as pawns in political agenda was not only detrimental but also fostered a culture of hooliganism, which would not be tolerated in the province.
“The people of Central Province have already faced significant stress under previous regimes and should not be subjected to further political strife on a day dedicated to peace, freedom, and unity,” Mwanakampwe said.
He urged citizens to remain civil and vigilant, reminding everyone that it was contradictory to preach peace while simultaneously stoking the flames of discord.
Mwanakampwe’s comments underscore the need for a collective effort to foster a peaceful and unified society, especially during significant national celebrations.
