‘Stop begging, Zambia wealthy enough!’ Baushi Royal Foundation admonishes country’s leaders

The Baushi Royal Foundation (BRF) has called on the Zambian government to reduce its reliance on external funding and instead focus on self-sustaining economic growth driven by the country’s abundant natural resources.

BRF Co-Chairman, Mumena Mushinge, told Zambia Monitor in an interview that Zambia has the potential to harness its wealth in natural resources to improve its economic standing.

“There is absolutely no reason why Zambia should constantly move with a begging bowl around the world when there is enough wealth in the country,” Mushinge said.

He stressed that effective use of the country’s resources could help reduce dependence on foreign aid, lower national debt, and stimulate job creation through local industries.

“By taking advantage of its natural resources, the country can create opportunities for economic growth, job creation, and improved living standards for its citizens,” he added.

Mushinge emphasized that Zambia was not poor but needed better management of its resources by those in authority to unlock its full potential.

He also expressed concern over the exploitation of mineral-rich areas, particularly in Luapula Province, where local communities and traditional leaders allegedly remained marginalized.

“There is too much exploitation of mineral-rich land in Luapula Province, but little benefit goes to local people and traditional chiefs. This must stop if we are to elevate the economy,” he said.
