The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has disposed of an assortment of non-compliant products valued at K903, 930.
The non-compliant products are sockets, adaptors, top plugs, shoe polish and rubber condoms, Head of Communications, Brian Hatyoka, said.
Hatyoka told Journalists in Lusaka on Monday at Chunga Dumpsite that other products destroyed included incandescent bulbs, electric cables and used undergarments.
He identified other products as gear oil, household electrical, similar appliances, clear beer, biscuits, peanut butter, edible oil, opaque beer, mealie meal and jams.
“Others are marmalades, wheat flour, animal feed, bottled water and fruit flavoured drinks, among others,” Hatyoka stated.
He said these non-compliant products were seized in Lusaka during market surveillance inspections, for not complying with relevant compulsory standards.
The Agency Head of Communications, stated that the disposal of the products was in line with the provisions of the Compulsory Standards Act No. 3 of 2017.

“ZCSA is warning of stern action against entities which are either manufacturing or importing and supplying products on the market in contravention of applicable compulsory standards,” Hatyoka warned.
He emphasized that this was because such products might pose a risk to public safety, health and the environment.
Hatyoka assured that the Agency would continue conducting enforcement activities in a bid to ensure that only safe products are allowed in the market.
“Consumers are also urged to buy products from reputable sources and report any suspicious product to the nearest Agency office,” he advised.
