Zambia’s National Assembly Speaker, Nelly Mutti, has conferred with Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, in Entebbe on efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Mutti, in her capacity as President of the Forum of Parliaments of Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR), led a delegation to discuss insecurity and armed clashes in eastern DRC.
During the meeting on Tuesday, she stated the Forum’s commitment to documenting and verifying reports on instability while condemning the violence.
This is according to a statement issued in Lusaka on Tuesday.
“Our meeting today aims to consult Your Excellency on the best approaches to addressing instability and armed conflict in eastern DRC, given Uganda’s key role in regional peace efforts,” Mutti said.

She expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation, citing the resurgence of the M23 armed group and its capture of Goma in North Kivu and Bukavu in South Kivu as major threats to regional stability.
Mutti called for Uganda’s support in efforts to restore lasting peace in the Great Lakes Region.
In response, Museveni stressed the importance of inclusive governance, warning that exclusionary policies fuel insecurity.
He also referred the delegation to his June 20, 2022, address at the East African Community Assembly, where he outlined historical factors contributing to the DRC conflict and urged collective action for peace.
