Police in Westwood have arrested Febiano Banda for alleged murder of his father over Nshima at Shampule village in Shibuyunji District.
Police public relations officer, Rae Hamoonga, said that Westwood police station received a report of the incident from Theresa Nyendwa, 72, of Shampule village, the suspect’s mother, who explained that her husband, Elliott Pharol Banda, 82, of the same area had been murdered by his last born son Febiano Banda, aged 40.
Hamoonga stated that the murder weapon used to inflict the injuries on the head and eventually leading to death was reportedly a pounding stick.
He said in a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday that the police visited the scenes and found the deceased lying in a pool of blood.
“Brief Facts of the matter are that yesterday December 5, 2023 at around 18:00 hours, the suspect, Febiano Banda, went to drink a local beer and came back around 01:00 hours today and went straight to the mother’s home and demanded for Nshima,” Hamoonga explained.
The cause of violence Hamoonga explained was when the suspect asked for Nshima and his father replied that they did not have it.
He narrated that from that response, Febiano became angry and started fighting his father.
Hamaanga said that in the process he got a pounding stick and hit his father on the head, the father sustained a deep cut on the head and died on the spot.
“A docket of case has been opened. The suspect has been arrested and detained in police custody while the body of the deceased has since been deposited in UTH mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial,” he revealed.
