Dominic Solanke netted twice as Tottenham Hotspur pulled off an impressive 4-1 comeback victory over Aston Villa at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while Moises Caicedo’s late strike denied Manchester United a win in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
The first half saw an evenly matched battle between Spurs and Villa, with both teams probing but unable to break through early on.
Villa intensified their efforts around the 30-minute mark, coming close when Amadou Onana’s header rattled the post.
They finally broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute: a corner from John McGinn was deflected by Pedro Porro, forcing Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario to parry.
Unfortunately for Tottenham, Villa’s Rogers was perfectly positioned to slot in from close range, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Spurs rallied after halftime, striking back in the 49th minute when Brennan Johnson finished off a well-placed cross from Son Heung-min, leveling the score at 1-1.
Tottenham took control as the second half wore on, moving ahead in the 75th minute through a beautifully orchestrated play.
Dejan Kulusevski threaded a pass to Solanke, who timed his run perfectly and chipped over Emiliano Martinez to put Spurs up 2-1.
Solanke struck again just four minutes later, capping off another swift Spurs attack.
Richarlison squared the ball across the goal for Solanke to finish at the far post, extending Tottenham’s lead to 3-1.
Spurs sealed the victory in stoppage time, with James Maddison curling a stunning 20-yard free-kick past Martinez to cap off a thrilling comeback.
Meanwhile, at Old Trafford, Manchester United were hoping to secure a win for interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
After a lackluster first half, the game finally came alive in the 70th minute when Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez brought down Rasmus Hojlund in the penalty area.
Bruno Fernandes stepped up confidently, converting the penalty to give United the lead and edge closer to three points.
However, United’s lead was short-lived. Just four minutes later, Chelsea’s Caicedo unleashed a powerful volley from the edge of the box, sending the ball into the bottom-left corner and leaving United keeper Andre Onana rooted.
The equalizer stunned the Old Trafford crowd and kept Chelsea in the top four, edging past Arsenal in the standings.
United, now 13th, look to bounce back as they prepare for the arrival of newly appointed manager Ruben Amorim.
The results underscored Tottenham’s resilience and Chelsea’s fighting spirit, while United remain in search of stability amid ongoing managerial transitions.
