The Socialist Party (SP) has extended a reconciliation offer to former members, inviting them to rejoin the movement.
General-Secretary, Dr Cosmas Musumali, highlighted the party’s commitment to prioritising the needs of the masses and expressed determination to lead with a focus on public welfare.
Musumali made the appeal during the opening of the SP’s 2nd Congress at Bellevue Events in Lusaka on Saturday.
The congress aims to elect new leaders and prepare for the 2026 general elections.
He asserted that the party’s mission was to alleviate poverty and counter capitalist exploitation, driven by a genuine concern for the people rather than personal interests.
“This government has failed and has nothing to offer to the Zambians. Every day, people are watching the Socialist Party to see how the economy can be improved,” Musumali stated.
He expressed confidence in a hopeful future under Socialist Party leadership, contrasting it with the current regime’s oppressive tactics against opposition activities.

Musumali underscored the party’s strong connection to the masses, emphasizing its dedication to representing their interests, advancing development, and creating jobs.
“When we held our first Congress a lot of people were skeptical whether it would be successfully held. You remember how the Cuban Ambassador was hounded out of the country and several dignitaries were denied entry into the country,” he said.
Musumali accused the UPND administration for being similarly oppressive as their predecessors, the Patriotic Front, against opposition and other dissenting voices.
