Socialist Party describes 2024 as a disastrous year for Zambia

Socialist Party (SP) vice president for Copperbelt Province, Reagan Kashinga, has described 2024 as a disastrous year for Zambia, citing severe political, economic and social ills that the nation has endured.

Kashinga had, therefore, urged Zambians to use the 2026 general elections to seek justice for the hardships they were facing under the ruling UPND.

In a press statement, Kashinga lamented that 2024 was marked by significant power shortages, high living costs, and volatile fuel prices, which worsened the suffering of ordinary citizens.

He said ZESCO power rationing and the resulting long hours of load shedding contributed to a dramatic decline in local industrial productivity, coupled with high fuel prices and the high cost of living.

He pointed out that a family of five now needed around K11, 000 per month to meet basic food requirements, while salaries remained low.

“Economically, 2024 has been disastrous for the people of Zambia. The local economy is on its knees, and the UPND government has failed to take practical steps to address the crisis.

“Instead, we have been subjected to empty promises,” Kashinga said, forecasting that Zambia could face severe hunger in early 2025 as the harvest season remained uncertain.
