Socialist Party backs Caritas Zambia, warns UPND govt that repercussions await governance failure

The Socialist Party (SP) has cautioned the UPND government against ignoring the issues highlighted by Caritas Zambia in its recent communiqué on national affairs.

Caritas Zambia had called on the government to tackle pressing issues such as the high cost of living, load shedding, unstable fuel prices, erosion of national values, police brutality, tribalism, legal lawlessness, and the shrinking democratic space.

In a statement issued in Ndola on Monday, Copperbelt Provincial Spokesperson, Reagan Kashinga, emphasized the importance of these concerns and urged the government to take them seriously.

Kashinga noted that Caritas Zambia’s communiqué vindicated the Socialist Party’s ongoing advisories to the UPND government since it assumed power in 2021.

“We wish to categorically state that the issues raised by Caritas are genuine and must therefore be taken seriously by the government if it really cares for the suffering Zambians,” Kashinga stated.

He stressed the importance of the government listening to people’s concerns about the high cost of living, load shedding, unstable fuel prices, police brutality, tribalism and the shrinking democratic space.

Kashinga warned that UPND’s failure to address these genuine concerns would have consequences.

“Today in Zambia, who doesn’t know that on electricity load shedding, the government must find pragmatic solutions? Who doesn’t know that the authorities should look into the instability in fuel pricing?” Kashinga questioned.

He concluded by stating that the UPND would eventually face repercussions for its adamancy, arrogance, and pride, urging the government to urgently address the concerns raised by Caritas.
