On Wednesday, the Lusaka Magistrate Court questioned how the entire state machinery could fail to find elusive Kaizer Zulu and his surety, the Lumezhi legislator.
In a press statement that had since gone viral on social media, Immigration Department Public Relations Officer, Namati Nshinka, confirmed the arrest, a move that was triggered by Lusaka Principal resident magistrate Sylvia Munyinya who issued a warrant of arrest against Munir for failing to shepherd Kaizer to court.
Munir who is detained at Ridgeway Police post , is supposed to appear before the Lusaka Chief Resident Magistrate Court Davies Chibwili on Friday who ordered his arrest first, after absconding court in another matter where he was sued for libel for accusing top government officials of corruption.
Various online outlets have published the story of Munir’s arrest, allowing some followers of the respective platforms to voice various opinions.
One Facebook user posted a comment on a news platform that read: “When trying to be a good boy to a bad man goes wrong.”
Another Facebook subscriber on a different news outlet suggested that the Lumezhi MP was paying back for all the favours Kaizer did for him in the past.
“Carrying the cross for KZ, after all the financial help and connections that were made available to these chap in the days when KZ was ruling Chambia,” he said.
Meanwhile Munir’s official Facebook page has accused the Immigration Department of creating a false narrative.
“We invite people to interrogate this issue beyond what the surface suggests. How does someone who is often in Parliament contributing to debates, elude the Immigration?” the post on the page questioned.
