The Federation of Small-Scale Miners in Zambia (FSSMAZ) has implored Parliamentarians to carefully scrutinise the Minerals Regulation Commission Bill to ensure that it safeguards the wealth and sets aside resources for future generations.
FSSMAZ president, Joseph Mwansa, emphasised the need for the lawmakers to consider the long-term impact of their decisions on the Bill.
Mwansa said in an interview that the Bill should consider making it easier for Zambians to access licenses without unnecessary struggle.

“As the Federation of Small-Scale Miners in Zambia, we appeal to all Members of Parliament to consider the long-term impact of your decisions today. We urge you to carefully go through the bill before you and ensure that your decisions benefit Zambians, your children, and yourselves.
“We commend you for your efforts so far and encourage you to protect our country and children through wise laws. Create a bill that safeguards our wealth and sets aside resources for future generations. Make it easier for Zambians to access licenses without unnecessary struggle,” he said.
Mwansa reminded parliamentarians that their decisions would have a lasting impact on the future of the country, hence the need to ensure Zambians benefited.
“Remember that you are making laws for Zambia and for your own legacy. One day, you may find minerals on your own land, and if you make it too difficult to obtain a license, you will face the consequences.
“Often, local Zambians are the ones who discover minerals, but they end up being victims and receiving nothing in return,” he said.
