Six men accused of stealing valuables from moving vehicles at Kafue’s traffic circle have appeared before the Lusaka Magistrate Court.

Among them, Joshua Ndeba, a 38-year-old bus conductor, admitted to stealing a phone, saying he intended to sell it to buy essentials for his unborn child.

Ndeba, along with Chrispin Mulenga (47), Charles Lungu (39), Rainford Sampa (32), Knox Kabaso (38), and Emmanuel Nsofu (19 or 20, depending on court records), faces seven counts of theft from motor vehicles.

The alleged crimes took place between December 1, 2024, and February 9, 2025.

When asked in court whether he had any lawful justification for the theft, Ndeba replied, “No.” He admitted to the crime, explaining, “My wife is pregnant, so I wanted to sell the phone to buy things for the baby.”

However, his co-accused, Mulenga, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court adjourned the case to allow amendments to the indictment, with the next hearing set for March 11, 2025.

The suspects remain in custody as they await further proceedings.
