Shamambo comes 7th in Men’s 50m freestyle, ends Olympic debut

Team Zambia swimmer, Damien Shamambo, clocked 24.09 seconds to come seventh in Heat 5 of the Men’s 50 metre Freestyle at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

According to the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) official social media platform, Shamambo, making his Olympic debut, had been ranked 48th out of 74 competitors, with the 16 fastest times qualifying for the semifinals.

With this result, Shamambo has concluded his campaign at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Teammate Mia Phiri would compete this Saturday in the Women’s 50 metre Freestyle.

The NOCZ celebrated Shamambo’s debut as a significant milestone in his swimming career, emphasizing the invaluable experience gained at this level.

“His Olympic debut marks a significant milestone in his swimming career and the experience gained at this level is invaluable,” read the post on the official NOCZ page.

The committee praised Shamambo, noting that competing against the world’s best swimmers was no small feat.
