Team Zambia’s Chef de Mission for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Rodrick Ndhlovu, and members of the games management team were present to mark the departure.

Copper Queens Head Coach, Bruce Mwape, expressed confidence in the team’s readiness for the games.

“The team is now set. We’ve been together for almost 3 weeks and have covered a lot of ground,” Mwape stated before departure.

Mwape highlighted the upcoming friendly match against New Zealand as crucial for assessing the full squad.

“That game is important to us because that’s where we now want to assess the whole team,” he explained.

Looking ahead to the Olympic Games, Mwape set ambitious goals, aiming to surpass their performance at the Tokyo 2020 Games.

“Our aim is to do better than last time,” he said, noting the increased experience among the players.

With a focus on improving game fitness and refining tactics, Mwape emphasized the team’s readiness to make a significant impact in Paris with a mix of experienced players and rising talents.

The Copper Queens will kick off their Olympic campaign on Thursday, July 25, 2024, against the United States of America in Nice, with the match scheduled to start at 21:00 Zambian time.
