Ruling party, UPND, fabricating lies, arranging fake resignations against Socialist Party —Muba’sa

Stanly Muba’sa, the Socialist Party (SP) National Youth Chairperson, has accused the UPND government of attempting to create a crisis within the opposition by falsely claiming that SP leader Dr. Fred M’membe is seeking to join the ruling Alliance.

Muba’sa dismissed these claims, which were reportedly made by UPND Consultant Mark Simuwe, as a desperate attempt to undermine the SP.

Simuwe had suggested that M’membe’s interest in joining the Alliance was influenced by the recent defection of Wynter Kabimba from the Economic Front.

Muba’sa, in a statement issued on Monday in Lusaka, criticised the UPND for allegedly fabricating stories due to its frustration and failure in governance.

“It is also apparent that the SP is at the moment, the fastest growing political party with an overwhelming national character and appeal,” Muba’sa stated.

He argued that President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND were unlikely to return after the 2026 elections and claimed that the SP is currently the fastest-growing political party with significant national appeal.

Muba’sa accused the UPND of trying to discredit Dr. M’membe and the SP through what he described as unsubstantiated claims.

He also alleged that President Hichilema had been repeatedly instructing the police to arrest and detain M’membe, while the UPND was supposedly funding non-SP members and staging fake resignations.

Muba’sa questioned why the UPND was so focused on a party they claim was failing, suggesting that their actions reveal a sense of weakness and desperation.

“The UPND also keeps giving money to non-SP members, and staging fake resignations and defections. But why this desperation over a party they claim to be dying? Why is Mr. Hichilema and Mr. Simuwe having sleepless nights over a party they have written off, that it’s not going anywhere?” Muba’sa asked.

He highlighted the contradiction in the UPND’s narrative, noting that while they downplay M’membe’s political influence and the SP’s organizational strength, they continue to target the party and its leader.
