The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has voiced concerns over the low levels of traffic regulation compliance among motorists on the Copperbelt.
Mukela Mangolwa, the RTSA Acting Head of Public Relations, reported that in the past three days, the Agency had charged 47 drivers for expired road tax.
Other prevalent traffic violations included 55 cases of driving without a valid driver’s license and 23 cases of expired identity documents.
In a statement issued from Lusaka on Tuesday, Mangolwa stated the need for road users to follow traffic safety rules.
He cautioned motorists traveling during the farmer’s day weekend to exercise utmost caution, adhere to speed limits and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.
RTSA, in collaboration with the Zambia Police Service Traffic section, had deployed officers across the country, including the Copperbelt, to enforce traffic regulations.
Mangolwa reiterated the agency’s call for motorists to avoid speeding, overloading, and using mobile phones while driving.
He also stressed the importance of using seatbelts and child restraints.
RTSA encouraged the public to report reckless and dangerous drivers through the RTSA National Call Centre to help improve road safety.
