The National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) has reportedly collected K1.5 billion from toll gates between January and May 2024.

The Agency claimed that it surpassed its projected target of K1.2 billion for the year.

Speaking at the ongoing Zambia International Trade Fair in Ndola, NRFA Public Relations Manager, Alphonsius Hamachila, announced that the revenue collected had been allocated to new and ongoing road projects and related activities.

Hamachila reported that the NRFA processed a total of 8.1 million vehicle passages, with 1.1 million of these passages benefiting from Frequent User Discounts and 102,000 from Local User Discounts.

The agency operated 38 toll collection points, comprising 27 inland toll gates and 11 ports of entry. “A total of K798 million was collected from inland toll gates, while K767 million was collected from ports of entry,” Hamachila stated.

From foreign-registered motor vehicles, the agency collected K223 million.

“The NRFA has been promoting the usage of electronic toll cards at its toll facilities across the country, resulting in K313 million being collected using the cashless payment platform,” Hamachila stated.

Hamachila said that the NRFA was complementing Public-Private Partnership (PPP) driven road infrastructure development by leveraging the National Road Tolling Programme.
