Revenue authority reiterates policy on use of Smart Invoice to curb fake VAT claims

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has emphasized the importance of the continued use of Smart Invoice to curb fake Value Added Tax (VAT) claims.

ZRA Corporate Communications Manager, Oliver Nzala, urged VAT-registered taxpayers to keep using the Smart Invoice system, as it helps the Authority prevent the use of fake invoices in VAT refund claims.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday, Nzala said the use of Smart Invoice also ensured that only qualifying entities claim deductions, thereby reducing tax evasion.

“Smart Invoice is a key initiative towards sealing revenue leakages and improving service delivery in tax administration,” he mentioned.

Nzala pointed out that the system enables ZRA to have real-time access to business transactions.

Meanwhile, Nzala encouraged those yet to register and integrate to continue issuing invoices using their existing invoicing systems.
