The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has intercepted a truck in Kafue carrying 3,660 cases of smuggled alcoholic beverages, valued at an estimated revenue loss of K2.8 million.

The ZRA Enforcement Team, in collaboration with other stakeholders, conducted a targeted stop of a truck registered as BAR802ZM/BAL6564ZM.

According to a statement from ZRA Corporate Communications Manager, Oliver Nzala, the driver was unable to provide valid customs clearance documentation, claiming the documents were left behind.

“The truck and its cargo were immediately escorted to the ZRA Controlled Premises – Makeni Enforcement Centre for verification. The goods were confirmed as smuggled alcohol, including Gordon Dry Gin, Jameson Whisky, Four Cousins, Amarula, Jack Daniels, and Tequila,” Nzala explained.

In addition to the alcohol seizure, a second truck was intercepted in Chongwe, carrying 1,200 units of 20-litre buckets of cooking oil, with an estimated revenue loss of K300,000. Both consignments have been seized.

The trucks involved, registered as BAR802ZM/BAL6564ZM and AJE1877ZM/AJE2372ZM, are now subject to forfeiture to the State.

Nzala warned that any attempts to circumvent the country’s laws would face severe penalties, including fines and imprisonment. He also encouraged citizens to cooperate with the ZRA and report any suspected smuggling activities.

“The ZRA will continue to intensify its enforcement efforts to protect national revenue and ensure fair trade practices,” Nzala stated.
