National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) is upbeat, reforms on the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) to allow for lump sum payment will reduce teachers indebtedness.
NAQEZ Executive Director Aaron Chansa said in a statement on Monday that the change in NAPSA pension access format would improve teachers’ welfare.
Cabinet approved the draft bill to allow pension contributors access to a lump sum pension, which would soon be tabled in Parliament for the first reading.
Chansa said the move would help the educators build decent housing units and venture into viable income generating businesses without entangling themselves into debt.
“Teachers across the country are happy that the government has approved the National Pensions Scheme Bill national pension scheme, it would help them venture into viable businesses and also build decent houses,” he said.

Chansa said all teachers from both private and government were against the way their national pension authority was operating, adding that there was no way NAPSA could be crafted to deny retired teacher’s lump sum as pension benefit.
