Chief Sokontwe of Milenge District in Luapula Province says it is unfair for his subjects to be buying mealie-meal at K850 per 25 kg bag when they are also Zambians.
The traditional leader is saddened that fertilizer delivered in his Chiefdom was underweight, containing three gallons and only shared among families.
Chief Sokontwe said sharing a gallon of fertilizer was perpetuating inequality in society, saying that he had even notified the Office of the President (OP).
This came to light when Socialist Party (SP) President Fred M’membe paid a courtesy call on Chief Sokontwe in Milenge District on Friday.
Chief Sokontwe said Milenge was so neglected that it had never received relief food despite high poverty levels.
“Luapula which is considered to be the least developed but has good rainfall would easily feed other provinces in Zambia,” he stated.

The traditional leader said Cassava Brown Streak disease had ravaged his area, claiming no attention had been received after Mount Makulu Agricultural Research Station collected samples.
Chief Sokontwe alleged that the Forest Department in Milenge was not adding any value to the lives of the people as they were only selling timber.
“The road network has been neglected with the pontoon no longer functioning,” he stated.
Eaelier, M’membe said his Party would restore dignity of chiefs once in power.
He said the feedback shared by Chief Sokontwe will strengthen his Party’s resolve to end inequality among Zambians.
