President Hichilema, wife, Mutinta, leave for Ghana on State visit

President Hakainde Hichilema has departed for Ghana to undertake a three-day state visit.

The Head of State will be in Ghana from Friday to July 9, 2023 at the invitation of his Ghanaian counterpart, Nana Akufo-Addo.

Hichilema who departed from Lusaka ZAF Base Airport at 07:40 hours aboard the presidential aircraft on Friday was in the company of First Lady Mutinta Hichilema.

The Head of State was seen off by Secretary to the Cabinet, Patrick Kangwa, Lusaka Province Minister, Sheal Mulyata, Service Chiefs and other senior government officials.

According to Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Stanly Kakubo, during the visit, Hichilema and Akufo-Addo will hold bilateral talks focusing on expanding trade and investment opportunities between the two nations.

Kakubo said both leaders will oversee the signing of a range of memoranda of understanding in crucial sectors, including trade and export promotion, tourism and culture and skills promotion.

“The MoU will also look at youth and sports, science and technology, and collaborative efforts in combating illicit drug trafficking,” he said.

Kakubo said during his time in Ghana, President Hichilema will visit the Zoomlion Waste Management Plant, renowned for its expertise in waste management and environmental sanitation.

He said the President woukd also explore the potential for replicating this successful model in Zambia, which has provided employment opportunities for over 76,000 Ghanaian youths.

“The state visit is a culmination of the inaugural session of the Zambia–Ghana Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation which was held in April 2023,” Kakubo said.
