President Hakainde Hichilema is scheduled to depart the country on Friday to attend the 60th Anniversary of Union Day in Tanzania, set for April 26, 2024.

Invited by Samia Suluhu Hassan, the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hichilema would journey to Dar-es-Salaam to participate in the event.

In a statement issued in Lusaka on Thursday, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mulambo Haimbe, said the event commemorated the 60th anniversary of the successful union between the Republic of Tanganyika and the People’s Republic of Zanzibar, leading to the establishment of the United Republic of Tanzania.

“President Hichilema will hold bilateral talks with President Hassan, addressing pertinent matters of mutual interest,” Haimbe stated.

He added that the discussions would serve to build on the State Visit undertaken to Zambia by President Hassan in October 2023 and allow for further consolidation of ties between the two countries.

“Zambia and Tanzania enjoy longstanding bonds of friendship, with bilateral relations firmly grounded in their shared history of the liberation struggle of Southern Africa,” he stated.
