Minister of Foreign and International Affairs, Mulambo Haimbe, has announced that President Hakainde Hichilema will attend the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit on January 28, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The Summit, hosted at the invitation of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, will convene African Heads of State, senior policymakers, and development partners to accelerate progress towards universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy by 2030.

According to Haimbe, the Summit aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7 and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

Jointly organized by the Government of Tanzania, the World Bank Group, the African Development Bank, and other partners, the Summit aims to advance the Mission 300 initiative, which seeks to provide electricity access to 300 million people across Africa by 2030.

Announced in April 2024, the Mission 300 initiative focuses on tackling energy poverty, unlocking economic opportunities, and promoting sustainable development across the continent.

“The Summit reflects Zambia’s commitment to expanding energy access, diversifying the energy mix, and attracting investments to meet growing energy demands,” Haimbe stated.

“Under President Hichilema’s leadership, these efforts contribute to Zambia’s development goals while supporting regional and global energy objectives.”

The Summit will be preceded by a Ministerial Conference on January 27, 2025.

On the sidelines of the Summit, President Hichilema is expected to hold bilateral discussions with other leaders to address regional and global issues of shared interest.

President Hichilema will return to Zambia immediately after the conclusion of the Summit.
