President Hakainde Hichilema has reiterated his firm stance against shielding anyone accused of corruption.

He stated that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) should investigate both past and present corruption cases.

This position was detailed in a statement issued by Clayson Hamasaka, State House Chief Communications Specialist and reported in Friday’s Zambia Daily Mail.

“President Hakainde Hichilema has reiterated his position that he will not shield anyone accused of corruption,” said Hamasaka.

Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa echoed this sentiment, stating that no minister or government official would be protected from corruption investigations.

Speaking on Hot FM’s Hot Seat Programme, Mweetwa specifically addressed the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supply Agency (ZAMMSA) incident, where 61 containers of medicine were marooned at a private depot in Lusaka.

Mweetwa commended former Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo for bringing the ZAMMSA issue to Parliament, highlighting the transparency of the UPND government.

“The minister took this matter to the floor of the house to alert the nation on what was viewed as irregularities so that the nation knows what is going on,” he stated.

He further noted that this proactive approach reflects the UPND’s commitment to running the country’s affairs transparently.
