President Hichilema praises China-Africa cooperation at 2024 FOCAC Summit

President Hakainde Hichilema has praised the resilience and determination of the Chinese people, describing these qualities as admirable and aspirational.

In a post on his official Facebook page, President Hichilema expressed appreciation for being part of the official opening ceremony of the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

He joined fellow Heads of State and government officials in Beijing for the event.

President Hichilema extended gratitude to Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Chinese people for providing Africa with the initiative and platform to discuss how to unlock the full potential of both regions.

He noted the long history of cooperation and solidarity between Africa and China, pointing out that China extended support to Africa during some of its most challenging times, even when such support was neither popular nor expected.

“During some of our continent’s most challenging times, China extended a helping hand to Africa when it was neither popular nor expected,” President Hichilema stated.

He specifically highlighted the historic partnership between Zambia and China, recalling that Zambia’s Founding President, Dr. Kenneth David Kaunda, and President Dr. Mwalimu Nyerere of Tanzania forged a significant alliance with China.

“This collaboration set a benchmark and inspired the entire continent,” President Hichilema added.

He emphasized that the 2024 FOCAC aims to build on this historical relationship by fostering a win-win, strategic, and equal partnership that benefits both regions.

“The 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation seeks to build on this historical relationship by creating a win-win, strategic, and equal partnership that will benefit both regions,” he wrote.
