President Hakainde Hichilema has joined the nation in mourning the untimely death of renowned Zambian artiste, Wesley Chibambo, popularly known as Dandy Krazy, who passed away Thursday in a tragic road accident.
In a heartfelt statement posted on his official Facebook page, President Hichilema expressed profound sorrow over the loss of a musical icon whose work resonated across the nation.
“It is with profound sadness and heartfelt sorrow that we learn of the passing of Wesley Chibambo, fondly known as Dandy Krazy. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and to all the citizens who cherished and supported this extraordinary artist. His music and charisma touched lives far and wide, crossing all boundaries and bringing people together,” he said.
The President further mourned the four other lives lost in the accident, offering prayers and solidarity to their grieving families.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace. We also remember the four others who perished in the tragic accident and stand in solidarity with their families during this moment of grief,” he added.
Vice President WK Mutale Nalumango also expressed her condolences, stating, “What a sad way to start a new year (2025). Saddened by the untimely demise of Mr. Wesley Chibambo. R.I.P DANDY 😭”
Following news of Dandy Krazy’s passing, fans flooded social media with tributes, sharing heartfelt condolences, videos, and photos of the late artiste.
Malawian Watchdog reported that Wesley Chibambo’s father hailed from Mzimba District, TA Mtwalo, Malawi, and had migrated to Zambia’s Copperbelt in the late 1960s in search of greener pastures. After retiring from the mines, the family settled in Zambia, while other relatives remained in Ekwendeni, Malawi.
“The late musician was born and brought up in Zambia,” the publication stated. “As a country, Malawi extends our deepest condolences to Zambia and the Chibambo family both in Malawi and Zambia for the loss of their talented son, Dandy Krazy. Phepani Inkosi Mtwalo.”
It was also revealed that Wesley Chibambo was a direct cousin to the wife of Malawi’s late Vice President, Mary Chilima.
Among the tributes shared online, a renowned doctor Aaron Mujajati wrote, “Today, we mourn the loss of a musical legend, Dandy Krazy.
His talent and passion for music left an indelible mark on all of us. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, fans, and all who knew him during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Dandy Krazy.”
BJ Ngosa, a fellow musician, added, “To God be the glory. Go well, my dear. Honest and truthful throughout your journey of your short life.”
Artistes Chanda n Kay wrote, “Bashi Towela, thank you for paving the way and establishing a foundation for us. Thank you for inspiring and entertaining amabumba ichalo chonse. Lesa amipokelele kabili mutushe muchibote. Amen. R.I.P King👑”
