President Hakainde Hichilema on Friday conferred with the Catholic Bishops to address issues of concern in the country.
During the meeting, Hichilema stated the importance of dialogue on matters affecting the nation, such as the drought which had created energy insecurity.
He called for continued collaboration and partnership between the government, the Catholic Church and other stakeholders to address the challenges facing the country.
He stated this was particularly in the context of the drought and its impact on food and energy security.
“There is a need for collective efforts to ensure food delivery to the people and address energy security to prevent economic shutdown,” Hichilema said.
He noted that partnership with the Catholic Church and other churches was of paramount importance, given their expertise and reach in delivering support to communities.
Hichilema reiterated the need to invest in resilient measures such as water harvesting, irrigation planning, and year-round food production.
“I also wish to express gratitude for the partnership and look forward to continued collaboration to address the challenges facing the country,” he said.
Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops President, Bishop Ignatius Chama, echoed Hichilema’s sentiments on the need for dialogue.
He emphasized the importance of interfaith dialogue, partnership and collective effort in addressing national challenges and promoting the well-being of the country and its citizens.
