President Hakainde Hichilema has commissioned the Chibombo Jiangxi Economic Cooperation Zone in Central Province, urging local businesses to take advantage of the opportunities in the facility.
Furthermore, the Head of State, attended the the Zambia-China Jiangxi Investment and Trade Cooperation Promotion Conference in Chibombo District on Saturday.
He highlighted the need for local businesses to take part in the opportunities provided for in the economic zone, stating that the government has many initiatives for citizens’ access to credit facilities as well as incentives such as tax holidays for local investors.
A post on President Hichilema’s Facebook handle, stated that the conference which he attended followed only one month after he held successful State visit to China, where several Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were signed.
He said this consolidated the relationship between Zambia’s Central Province and Jiangxi Province.
“We lauded Jiangxi United for their efforts in attracting a range of companies to this facility including medical equipment manufacturers, steel processing plant, electrical insulator factory and many more,” Hichilema said.
He said his government was committed to promoting special economic zones and industrial parks to leverage on the centrality of Zambia’s location to accelerate the industrial development and achieve the goal of becoming the regional manufacturing and processing powerhouse.
Hichilema said the Road and Belt Initiative was another example of the longstanding all-weather relationship between Zambia and China forged over decades.
“Today we celebrated the TAZARA spirit that underscores the bilateral relations between our two countries,” he said.
