President Hichilema, at National Youth Day event, challenges youths to be innovators

President Hakainde Hichilema on Sunday officiated at this year’s Youth Celebrations in the mining town of Kitwe on the Copperbelt.

President Hakainde said youths were the future of the country and should take advantage of various empowerment programmes to change the economic trajectory.

He said Zambia was not supposed to be at the bottom and he emphasize on working hard.

“Zambia is not Lusaka, Zambia is consolidation of the provinces,that is why we are here ,” President Hichilema said.

He said youths should be at the centre of the economy as the reason the government decided to introduce free education.

President Hichilema said the introduction of skills bursaries to improve the country’s skills set was key.

He said youths should shift from being job seekers for the country’s economic trajectory to change for better.

The President is on the Copperbelt for a week to tour various public projects and meet with various stakeholders.

He started with the laying of wreaths at Kitwe’s Kaunda Square before officiating at the youth day event.

The youths day celebrations are held under the theme “Tranforming Minds for Accelerated Youth Development.”
