President Hakainde Hichilema has requested the government of the Czech Republic to help Zambia in the field of water harvesting to enhance agriculture production.
Hichilema made the request when he held a meeting at State House in Lusaka on Wednesday with Czech Republic Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavsky.
The Head of State said this would help government to effectively implement agriculture activities such as irrigation and improve food security in the country.
He said government was determined to attain food security and this can be done through water harvesting and growing different crops that are drought resistant in the face of erratic rains.
“Government is determined to ensure food security and this can be done through water harvesting and growing different crops that are also drought resistant in the face of no rains,” the Head of State said.

He further called for enhanced bilateral relations and collaborations in areas such health, increased trade, peace and security among other issues.
“It is very important as it fits very well into our agenda to grow food and we would like to take advantage of the global food shortage and grow more food,” Hichilema said.
Czech Republic Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavsky disclosed that his country was implementing several projects and will continue to do so.
