Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema has addressed the Angolan parliament as part of his state visit to the oil rich country.
He said on Wednesday in that country that peace and security were prerequisites as well as catalysts for socio – economic and democratic advancement.
“To grow and entrench our democracy, we must work together in ensuring meaningful participation of all groups and sections of our societies, by making sure that all voices, all tribes, genders, and sub sections of society, are heard, and heard – equally,” Hichilema said.
He said democracy should be at the core of all the developmental aspirations of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC).

Hichilema said the two countries have worked together to foster peace and stability within our region, through various initiatives including the Lusaka protocol of 1994.
“We cordially urge this house to continue safeguarding the tenets of this initiative, and ensure that our much cherished and shared culture of peace in our region is sustained,” he said.
Hichilema acknowledged the peace initiative that Angola, under the leadership of his counterpart Joao Lorenco, was spearheading in the Great Lakes Region.
He stated that Zambia was committed to all efforts to restore peace in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) , particularly through the Luanda peace process, as well as the Nairobi peace process.
